Nu-Eyes™ FAQ

Q. How do I know that this is the same N-acetylcarnosine eye drop that was used in the clinical trials?

There is a very simple way to determine if one is purchasing the safe, formula that was proven in the Russian clinical trials. While there are several other private label products available, Nu-Eyes™ is the original formula and finding this name on the box, and purchasing it from Bionational Pharmaceuticals or one of their authorized distributors, ensures that you have purchased the correct and only clinically tested product.

Q. What are the ingredients?

Ingredients:

  • N-Acetylcarnosine 1.0%
  • Glycerin (lubricant) 1.0%
  • Carboxymethylcellulose sodium (lubricant) 0.3%
  • Sterile Water (Ophthalmic Grade Isotonic Solution, pH 6.3 to 6.5) buffered with Potassium Phosphate
  • Dibasic and Potassium Phosphate Monobasic
  • Benzyl Alcohol (Preservative)

Q. Are there any medications or vitamins or supplements that conflict with Nu-Eyes™?

Always consult your physician and/or eye care specialist when adding a new medication or product to an existing regimen. To date, there have been no medications that interfere with the effectiveness of Nu-Eyes™ or vice versa, to the best of our knowledge.  It is advised that you use Nu Eyes™ eye drops at least one hour before using any prescription eye medicines or that you wait at least one hour after using prescription eye medicines before using Nu Eyes™ eye drops.

While in most cases taking vitamin supplements in no way conflicts with the effects of this product's ability to reverse cataracts, there are some anti-oxidants that can potentially inhibit the actions of this product. The supplements of concern are the ocular support supplements, Lutein and Zeaxanthin.   These particular supplements are in themselves very good for eye health, but they compete with N-acetylcarnosine, thus effectively negating its effects on the cataract reversal process. For these reasons, the supplements Lutein and Zeaxanthin should be avoided while actively treating cataracts. However, once optimal results have been achieved and only the maintenance dose is being used, Lutein and Zeaxanthin may be re-introduced as part of the overall ocular health management effort. Most other antioxidants and supplements should be continued and may certainly be of benefit to the end result.

Q. I have glaucoma. Can I still use Nu-Eyes ™?

Yes.  Always consult your physician and/or eye care specialist when adding a new medication or product to an existing regimen.  It is advised that you use Nu Eyes™ eye drops at least one hour before using any prescription eye medicines or that you wait at least one hour after using prescription eye medicines before using Nu Eyes™ eye drops. Nu Eyes™ has been shown to work synergistically with several of the common glaucoma eye drops glaucoma eyedrops to reduce the intraocular pressure.

Q. Are there any potential side effects?

With this formula, utilized in 10 years of human clinical trials, there have been no reported side effects or contra-indications, even when used everyday for up to 2 years.

Q. How many drops of Nu-Eyes™ do I need to use?

Apply two (2) drops in the affected eye(s) two (2) times daily, (morning and night), or as directed by a physician. When applying the drops be sure the first drop is fully absorbed before applying the second drop to prevent wasting any of the product. This can mean waiting 5 minutes between the first and second drop application.

Q. How long will one box of Nu-Eyes™ last?

Each box of Nu-Eyes™ contains two 5ml vials and each 5ml vial contains approximately 75-drops.  If treating both eyes 1 box of Nu-Eyes™ will last 2 weeks.  A simple way to plan your use is to know that you will need 1 box per eye, per month.

Two 5ml vials per box will amount to:
1 month supply for both eyes = 2 boxes
2 month supply for both eyes = 4 boxes
4 month supply for both eyes = 8 boxes
6 month supply for both eyes = 12 boxes

When used as a preventive measure or for maintenance purposes, one box of Nu-Eyes™ will last for approximately 8-10 weeks.

Q. When will I begin to notice any changes or improvements?

Typically, you will begin to see signs of initial results after the first 3 months of use. Results are more significant after 4-5 months and even more dramatic results are achieved after 6-8 months.  Cataracts that result from steroid medications or diabetes can be more resistant and can take longer to respond to the product.  Because cataracts and most other age-related eye disorders are caused by low anti-oxidant and high free-radical activity, the regular and consistent use of Nu-Eyes™ has been shown to be an excellent, non-invasive option for the treatment and even reversal of cataracts.

Q. How will I be able to tell if the product is working for me?

While you may notice almost immediately minor clarity improvements, these types of improvements are merely due to the lubricant benefits of the product and are not actually related to cataract reversal.   During the first few months of use you are actually slowly changing the chemistry of the eye and are therefore not likely to see significant signs of improvement right away. Initial improvements generally occur right around the end of the 3rd month of use. Improvement in night vision is one of the first signs that the cataract is clearing.  We also have reports that improved brightness of colors is what is noticed initially.  We strongly encourage you to have your doctor take a digital reading of your cataract before starting Nu-Eyes™.  Ultimately at either the 6 month point or the 12 month point you will want to have your eyes examined again to determine to what degree you have succeeded in reversing your cataract. Once the optimal level of reversal has been achieved it is advised to use the recommended maintenance dose to ensure that cataract does not return.

Q. My cataract is pretty advanced. Will Nu-Eyes ™ still work?

Yes, however the earlier that one starts, the better.  Nu-Eyes ™  is most effective when used in the first half of cataract development.   The halfway point is defined as being uncorrected visual acuity of 20/70 ("20 over 70") or better.  In clinical trials, those who had cataracts less than 7 years experienced the most dramatic results. Those who had cataracts for 7 to 15 years still received very good results. Those who had cataracts for more than 15 years experienced less dramatic improvements, but improvements none the less.  You will want to continue using the drops at the recommended dose until the optimal level of reversal has been achieved which will occur at some point between 6 - 12 months use. Once this level of improvement has occurred it is advised to reduce the daily dose to the maintenance dose.  Maintenance Dose: use one drop of Nu-Eyes™ in each eye six days a week, with a one or two week break every two months.

Q. Are the results long-lasting?

The benefits of Nu-Eyes™ are long lasting.  However if the drops are discontinued entirely the degenerative oxidative processes that were present initially is likely to return and so it is advised to continue with the maintenance dose on a regular and on-going basis. Maintenance Dose: use one drop of Nu-Eyes™ in each eye six days a week, with a one or two week break every two months.

Q. Can I use Nu-Eyes™ for my dog with cataracts?

Yes.  Please refer to our special page for our beloved pets who are suffering with cataracts.  "Nu-Eyes™ for Pets" - click here

Q. Could there be a problem with using Nu-Eyes ™ while I am Chelating?

Unfortunately the answer is yes. Interestingly enough, chelation, while extremely beneficial for many health conditions including ocular diseases, can greatly interfere with the effectiveness of Nu-Eyes™ eye drops. The mineral extraction process of chelation also extracts necessary trace minerals which unfortunately inhibits its effectiveness. Therefore it is advised to complete the chelation process entirely prior to beginning the use of Nu-Eyes ™.

Q. In addition to cataract are Nu-Eyes ™ eye drops helpful for other eye-disorders?

This unique N-acetylcarnosine formula with its synergistic lubricants is showing beneficial results for the following eye-disorders:

  • Increased intraocular pressure associated with glaucoma. (When used in combination with beta-blockers)
  • Presbyopia
  • Corneal disorders
  • Computer Vision Syndrome
  • Eye strain
  • Ocular inflammation
  • Blurred vision
  • Dry Eye Syndrome
  • Retinal diseases

Q. Who should use Nu-Eyes™ eye drops?

Anyone who would like to reduce the inevitable oxidative stress induced degeneration of their eyes.  The superior antioxidant benefits of Nu-Eyes™ may be useful for anyone who:

  • is 35 years old or older
  • is nearsighted
  • wears reading glasses
  • is African American
  • has a family history of cataracts and/or glaucoma
  • has had excessive exposure to sunlight
  • has a history of internal eye injury or bleeding
  • has had previous eye surgery
  • has used oral and/or ocular steroid medication (including eye drops) for a prolonged period of time.
  • has high blood pressure
  • has poor circulation
  • has diabetes
  • has experienced chronic or recurring inflammation within the eye
  • has been diagnosed with "cupping" of the optic nerve

Q. Can I use Nu-Eyes™ to PREVENT the onset of eye disorders such as cataracts and retinal disease?

Yes.  As a preventative measure and to maintain the good health of the eye, one drop into each eye daily with intermittent breaks or as directed by a physician.

Q. Will the drops cause any discomfort or stinging?

Nu-Eyes™ is buffered to an optimal pH level as are most eye drops. There should not be any burning with use of this product-only a soothing relief of any previous irritation. Of course as with all eye drops if any burning persists, immediately consult your eye care specialist and discontinue use of the product.

Q: I saw another N-acetylcarnosine website and it said that the preservative Benzyl Alcohol is not good. Is this true?

Definitely not true. Benzyl alcohol has long been utilized in ocular formulations as an FDA approved preservative. In the clinical trials conducted at the Helmholtz Institute in Moscow, five formulations were tested with varying preservatives and sources of N-acetylcarnosine.  In the end there was one that far surpassed all expectations and parameters. Interestingly it was the formulation with the preservative benzyl alcohol in combination with a unique source and purity level of N-acetylcarnosine. Those who are claiming that benzyl alcohol causes burning do not understand the importance of the critical pH balance of ocular formulations. It is the incorrect balance of pH that can result in burning with some ocular formulations and not necessarily the preservative.  Many customers use Nu-Eyes™ for dry eye syndrome, contact lens use and for eye strain relief.  It is this formulation that was tested over time and proven in controlled, clinical environments to reverse cataracts with no reported side effects.
