The History of Curaderm

"Glycoalkaloid Medicine" originated in 1979 when biochemist Dr. Bill Cham heard about the remarkable observation that a cow had stopped the growth of an eye skin cancer by rubbing its eye against the fruit of the Devil' s Apple plant (Solanum linnaeanum, also known as Solanum sodomaeum and Solanum hermannii). The Devil's Apple plant is a member of the same family as eggplant, potatoes and tomatoes. Dr. Cham was intrigued and set out to identify the active chemical compound.

Dr. Cham managed to isolate the active compounds which turned out to be solasodine rhamnosyl glycosides (solasonine and solamargine and di-and monoglycosides). These glycoside compounds were named BEC. The Curaderm-BEC5 cream was first released on the Australian market in 1990.

Unlike conventional skin cancer treatments such as surgical excision, chemotherapy, radiation and topical treatments such as 5-FU (Adrucil®, Fluorouracil®, Efudex®, Fluoroplex®) that destroy the cancer cells as well as healthy cells surrounding the lesions, BEC destroys only the cancer cells. The healthy cells of the surrounding tissue are untouched. The cells of basal cell carcinomas (BCC) and squamous cell carcinomas (SCC) contain specific receptors that recognize and bind to BEC. Healthy skin cells do not have these receptors and thus, healthy cells are spared. BEC binds to the cancer cells and enters the cancer cell and induces the cancer cells to destroy themselves by rupturing and intracellular membrane called a lysosome. Normal cells begin to regrow and healthy tissue is regenerated with little or no scarring.

Curaderm-BEC5 is intended to specifically treat:

  • Basal Cell Carcinomas (BCC)
  • Squamous Cell Carcinomas (SCC)
  • Keratoses
  • Keratoacanthomas
  • Sun spots

Why trust Curaderm-BEC5?

Extensive clinical research in Australia and the United Kingdom has confirmed that Curaderm-BEC5 really does work. A Phase III trial of Curaderm-BEC5 confirmed the efficacy of Curaderm-BEC5 for the treatment of non-melanoma skin cancers (BCC and SCC), keratoses and keratoacanthomas. "Single and randomized double-blind placebo controlled studies by independent dermatological hospitals confirmed the efficacy of Curaderm-BEC5 for the treatment of keratoses, keratoacanthomas, basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma, collectively known as non-melanoma skin cancers. Twice daily application of Curaderm-BEC5 under occlusive dressing for 8 weeks resulted in a 78% success rate" (Punjabi et al., 2000; Cerio and Punjabi, 2002). "Treatment regime for 12 weeks resulted in virtually 100% success rate" (Cham et al., 1992). "Success was defined as zero presence of non-melanoma skin cancers after histological examination of samples extracted from the lesion site by pinch biopsy. In addition, treated patients were followed up for over 5 years and 10 years post treatment and it was established that there were no recurrences of the treated lesions" (Cham, 1994; Cham et al, 1992). "Only local skin irritation and erythema were observed as adverse reactions. The treatment with Curaderm-BEC5 was considered to be a safe therapy." ---Cham, B.E., 2007. "Solasodine rhamnosyl glycosides specifically Bind cancer cell receptors and induce apoptosis and necrosis. Treatment for skin cancer and hope for internal cancers."" Res. J. Biol. Sci., 2 (4): 503-514.

Cuarderm-BEC5 is easy to use. Simply apply the cream to the lesion twice daily.

Curaderm-BEC5 is now the first choice treatment for many medical doctors, skin cancer clinics and naturopaths. Over 25 years of clinical research has proven the safety and effectiveness of Curaderm-BEC5 for the treatment on non-melanoma skin cancers.

"We have observed that post treatment with Curaderm the wound is quickly replenished with normal tissue and that residual scarring is minimal. It is a cost effective treatment for both primary and secondary skin cancer care." Dr. Sangeeta Punjab - Royal London Hospital

"Curaderm-BEC5 is a scientifically based preparation. I am impressed by the evidence presented for Curaderm-BEC5 and believe that the chance of a complete and lasting remission of superficial skin cancer using this product are good." - Dr. Ralph W. Moss - Assistant director of public affairs at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York (1974-1977), "The Cancer Industry", "The Cancer War"

"Curaderm-BEC5 can get rid of the lesion with no evidence of scarring and in the rare instances in which the lesion returns a simple reapplication of the cream will solve the problem. " - Dr. David G. Williams FRCPath

"In my experience, Curaderm-BEC5 was effective when used as directed and was most useful on the face where an excellent cosmetic result usually occurred. This was particularly true around the nose and mouth where cosmetic surgery would be most obvious." - Dr. Roy Goodman

"Dr Ross Evans - treated over 500 such tumors over 5 years. Dr Evans established that all tumors treated with Curaderm-BEC5 totally regressed with no recurrences in any of the lesions he was able to follow up and he was impressed with the cosmetic effects resulting from treatment of the tumors with Curaderm-BEC5"
